Light Lab is a 33,000 square foot mid-century modern space that acts as both the product design and development headquarters for Mohawk Group and also a A&D concept center for Mohawk products. Having recently renovated their interior design in collaboration with SCAD Atlanta, Light Lab was in need of branding, wayfinding, product display, signage and promotional collateral.
Light Lab is a key example of Mohawk Group’s commitment to sustainable products and practices. The building’s renovation garnered Light Lab the distinction of being the first place in Georgia to receive Petal Certification from the International Living Future Institute’s Living Building Challenge™. Leap was contracted to tell the story of Light Lab through product displays, wayfinding and signage, creative branding and environmental messaging.
Exemplifying light and airiness, Light Lab’s newly implemented branding consists of dot imagery for both the word mark and secondary icons. The use of bright, fresh colors and bold imagery is spare and purposeful, keeping the space open and clean. By using reclaimed wood from the original building structure within the signage and lighting solutions, the Leap creative team has carried Mohawk’s sustainability commitment throughout the space. Mohawk fiber poms and other reusable products were also utilized within the designs, including entrance signage. Recycled paper was used in print materials, and whenever possible, promotion was conducted in digital formats.
